The Teacher meets the Student

Just caught this really thought-provoking video at I’m Wil. In the clip, you have rap veteran KRS-One having a little face-to-face chat with one of the up-and-comers in the game, Soulja Boy. They chat about the current state of hip-hop and the motives for all these grudges that are occurring between rappers in the game at the moment. Regarding the Soulja Boy/Ice T beef, KRS-One presents a good point; how can Ice T be claiming Soulja Boy “ruined” hip-hop, when Soulja Boy grew up listening to 50 Cent? He wasn’t even alive during what many call the “classic” period of rap. There’s a huge time gap to be filled there. Although Soulja Boy’s lyrical content and ability are questionable, I still fully agree with what “the teacher” is saying. What do you guys think?

Wow, I FINALLY found your blog Chris! I stopped looking after a while and I was kind of sad :( because nobody can do an mp3 blog like you, and now your back!!! yay!! lol :)

Anyways, I just think Solja boy should categorize his music under a different genre, because when people think of HIP HOP they think of Weezy, Hov, Jeezy, Yeezy,[that's a lot of 'eezy's lol] T.I., Common, Lupe, etc. Just like Ciara dubbed the “Crunk & B” thing, Solja should invent a title and call it a day

Soulja Boy is a joke. “Soulja Boy’s lyrical content and ability are questionable”…. questionable? that’s an understatement; they are effing suspect.

Ice-T is absolutely right. Is the future of hip hop about songs about a dumb ass dance? You can rap about blah blah blah and as long as it’s over a decent beat, you got a #1 song. Lyricists like Lupe and Chamillioniare get no love, because they say something with substance.

When the media portrays Soulja Boy as new school hip-hop…that’s f’d up. Anyways, don’t mean to vent, love your blog, hate Soulja Boy.

soulja boy is the LEAST ELOQUENT person i’ve ever seen in my life. his vocabulary set is so terribly limited… how can we expect his rap to be any better?

it’s almost painful to hear him talk… every other sentence is “y’nahh mean?”

kill me.
