Travis Barker & DJ AM injured in plane crash

Via Los Angeles Times:

The wreckage of a Learjet that was carrying former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, Adam Goldstein, also known as DJ AM, and four others rests on an embankment along Highway 302, along the outskirts of the Columbia Metropolitan Airport, today in Columbia, S.C.

The plane was taking off in South Carolina with six people aboard. Four were killed. The musicians are in critical condition.

Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and Adam Goldstein, known as celebrity DJ AM, were critically injured in a fiery Learjet crash in South Carolina that killed four people, authorities said today.

The Learjet was taking off shortly before midnight Friday with six people aboard, including two crew members, when air traffic controllers saw sparks. The plane, which was en route to Van Nuys airport, veered off the end of the runway, rolled through a fence and crashed on a nearby road, said Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen.

Barker and Goldstein were in critical condition at a burn center in Augusta, Ga., about 75 miles southwest of Columbia, hospital spokeswoman Beth Frits said.

The Lexington County coroner said today that pilot Sarah Lemmon of Anaheim Hills and copilot James Bland of Carlsbad died. Also killed were passengers Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles.

At the crash site today, the air was still heavy with the odor of jet fuel. A trail of black soot led off a runway, across a five-lane road next to the airport and up an embankment. The nose of the aircraft was gone and the roof was missing from two-thirds of the charred plane.

An investigative team from the National Transportation Safety Board has been dispatched to South Carolina.

Barker and Goldstein had performed together under the name TRVSDJ-AM at a free concert in Columbia on Friday night. “It’s absolutely terrible and tragic,” Columbia Mayor Bob Coble said.

Wow… the crazy thing is how the celebrities were the only ones that survived. Pretty weird how that played out. This reminds me of the Aaliyah incident, only vice versa… R.I.P. to those who’ve lost their lives. I hope Travis and AM get better soon.

Hey Chris, don’t mean to rag on your post but just as a cautionary word, I was a bit offended by your last statement re the playing out of Aaliyah’s death.

Let’s not forget that a life is a life, regardless of whose life it is or what kind of life has been led. Celebrities are no more important that every other living, breathing, soul on this planet. Please do not ever wish upon someone that they would have survived might the death of someone else have compensated.

Anyway, that being said, my prayers are with the families and loved ones of all those involved with the tragic crash.

Yeah wow… really bad wording on my part. That is in no way what I was trying to get across, and you make a totally valid point which I agree with 100%. I’m sorry.
